ISAD Presidential Election 2022 Call for Nominations

Dear Fellows,

The presidential term of office for our current President, Professor Jair Soares will come to an end at the end of 2022.  ISAD is now looking for nominations for presidential candidates to stand in the online election to be held from July 2022 

Job description

The opportunity to lead the Society forward in the next stage of its development towards fulfilling its role as the scientific society representing researchers, clinicians and key opinion leaders in the area of affective disorders. The President occupies a significant international position in the field of affective disorders and with the council’s consent can set the strategy for the society.

  • Chairman of the Charity and Board of Trustees
  • Gives the Society strategic direction in conjunction with the immediate past president and president elect
  • The President represents the Society’s academic researchers, clinicians and advocacy partners at international conferences.
  • Maintains the Society’s relationship with the commercial sector; encourages collaborative working relationships and sponsorship.
  • The President will be supported by the society’s administrator based at the Institute of Psychiatry in London.  The President does not need to be regularly present in London but regular teleconferences with the administrator are necessary for the good functioning of the society.

Who can stand?

Any Fellow of the International Society for Affective Disorders may stand for election.
A Fellow or Distinguished Fellow may nominate themselves or another Fellow or Distinguished Fellow they feel would be suitable.  The nominee must agree in writing to be nominated.  Each nomination must be seconded by another ISAD Fellow.
The presidency is not open to affiliates of the society. Geographic region is no barrier to nomination.

Electoral procedure

Nominations will be circulated to the membership.  A one member one vote, first past the post system will be employed to decide the election. Fellows will cast their vote online. The candidate with the most number of votes will win, regardless of whether they have an absolute majority over all other candidates. There will be one round of voting.
The successful candidate will hold the office of president elect until his official term of office begins with the handover from the past president at the ISAD London 2022 meeting in September 2022


Deadline for nominations is: 30th June 2022
Elections will be held in: July 2022
